France has over 62 million inhabitants on an area of 551,500 km2. The national language in France is French. More than 64% of the population is Catholic. About 20% of the French are non-believers. Because of the immigrants from Asia, Turkey and North Africa in the 20th century, there are also many Muslims in France. Jews and Protestants are present in smaller numbers.
